The Mataura

Southlands rivers and streams are a Mecca to dry fly fishers throughout the world but the pearl among them is undoubtedly the Mataura river with its reputation as one of the best brown trout rivers in the world. It is famous for its hatches and spinner falls and is the best 'match the hatch' fishing in New Zealand.

Here at Mataura Valley Trout Safaris we specialise in 'sight fishing' and Southland's clear clean rivers and streams are well suited to this method of fishing.
